Feast Your Eyes on Our Feast

We show up to our friends house to feast.

We know we are in for a blazing treat.

We spy our chef commanding the kitchen stage by stomping his feet.

We run to the table and scramble to our seats.

We sing "Grace"! in unison to give thanks for this amazing retreat.

We are delighted by the simplest dishes, our taste buds accede.

We devour everything, pouring and splashing, leaving nothing neat.

We stay amused by the company we keep.

We talk of fun times and try to recall screaming, "how did we meet"?

We scavenge and scoop and dip and dig as our spoons meet.

We cheer and clank and chatter on about what is still to achieve.

We cherish the sounds that abound as roosters and mules greet.

We never resolve to stay polite, and instead find each our own soap box speech.

We wander away upstairs in search of some quiet relief.

We spy the powder room mirror to see what might remain in our teeth.

We realize the bed is calling us over to carry us to sleep.

We cheek kiss and bear hug, and grab our keys.

We head out the gate, so thankful we found all that we came to seek.

All Hail Kale

Her violet eyes are no surprise.
Our Empress is rich and catered to.
She holds our attention without compromise.
We stare as she startles us straight through.

Dark and rich under the night sky.
We pluck our plum plump and ripe.
Smooth and cool, we take a bite.
Our teeth plunge through skin so tight.

We hold a Court of Honor for her generous Spirit.
She sports vibrant hue and a bolder heart.
Her enchantment is ours and we share it.
She has us held captive from the start.

Pineapple Guava

Pineapple Guava = "Freijoa"
So found in along the coastlines of New Zealand, and as far north as Scotland.
I found mine falling from the front garden tree in Santa Monica, California.
Same shape and same color as the leaves surround, only to be seen as they hit the ground.
Scoop them up fast, hoping they had soft landing, and wheel barrel them through the front door, straight to the kitchen sink. Slice them long, scoop out the center, and toss them in the blender.
Yes, you can eat the skin, but tends to be a bit bitter. Choose the flesh from the fatter ones to add to the batch, to help balance out the flavor. Ice, plain yogurt, fresh mint, and gobs of honey. Hit go!
Bright freshness hits the pallet and slides down smooth.
Make friends with a neighbor who might harbor a tree. You will have to make an effort, these will not be offered for sale at the local market. Luck might find it at a road side stand, but mostly you have to prove to be an interested fan.

Jujube

Jujube is the the Chinese date, that is full of fresh fiber,
and only available from later Summer to early Fall.
They resemble themselves more of a tiny apple, dry and crunchy,
but perfumed much like a pear, with a pit in the middle.
A small commitment for chubby little hands.
They have proven to be a great asset to the four and
five year old community. I've seen it!
Fresh and firm, make for the best bite, but soft all the way
down to dry and wrinkled, they are still fine. The laundry list
of health benefits are just too long too list, so find you way to
trust, that they are good for you with many medicinal traits;
Sleep being just one. Find them at your local Farmer's market,
take them home, and place them in a bowl that sits nicely in your lap.
Take them in...chomp, chomp, crunch...instead of potato chips!
